How to Keep the Human Touch in AI-Generated Content

Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) may seem very cool and can do many things, but it could be better. This is because AI lacks the capacity for critical thinking, will, and creativity.  AI can generate hundreds of words instantly, but it can fail when it comes to humanizing content so that it touches readers personally and leaves a lasting impression.

In my own words, the AI language model is limited by its lack of creativity, critical thinking, and empathy. Human content writers bring a touch of creativity and personal experience to their work that AI tools cannot. Because AI-generated content lacks the crucial human touch, it can't be considered nearly perfect, especially when it comes to content marketing and copywriting.

Another reason why AI-generated content needs a human touch is that it lacks personalization. AI-generated content lacks personality, is often overly simplistic, and can sound robotic, which people don't always like or find useful.  AI is still learning.  AI doesn't know much yet. First, it cannot say much about a particular company or person who is not famous. It's also been noted that AI tools can sometimes wander off, generate text that doesn't make sense, and not follow your specific instructions.

Because AI lacks empathy, it may not be able to create content that truly connects with the audience or matches the brand's story and idea. AI tools are a great way to create quality, research-backed text on a specific topic or scenario in less time (faster than writing by hand), but AI-generated content still needs to be edited and reviewed by a human writer. To fit a certain context or, in other words, to add a human touch to it.

How Does AI-Generated Content Differ From Human-authored Content?

AI-generated content is content written with an AI tool that can produce unique text on a specific topic by learning from information in a database. AI content is already being used by writers, digital marketers, and organizations around the world to create content for marketing and many other purposes.

While AI can use its reasoning, learning, and decision-making skills to create unique content like human writers, it lacks critical thinking and emotional intelligence and cannot understand the context of a  text unless it is specifically mentioned.  Because AI is a machine that runs on algorithms and code, it can produce content much faster than humans.

AI-generated content is created by a machine, but human-generated content is produced by a real person using their creativity, experience, and knowledge to shape the output.

Here are some key differences between AI-generated content and human-generated content.

Creativity:  AI algorithms can generate text that follows a certain pattern or structure from existing data but may lack the creativity and intuition of human writers.

Tone and Style: Human-generated content has a unique tone and style that reflects the author's own experience and writing style. In contrast, AI-generated content has a more robotic tone.

Context: AI writers may have difficulty understanding the context (meaning) of text, which can lead to factual errors or misinterpretations.  Emotional Intelligence: A person's writing often can connect with readers on an emotional level and can reflect empathy, humor, and/or inspiration. AI-generated content is purely logical and may lack human emotion.

How To Add A Human Touch To AI-generated Content?

Customize your search

AI simply works based on the question you input or the information you input into it. The more detailed context you can provide to a subject or topic, the better and more humanized content AI can produce. For example, if you simply search for “best SEO marketing strategies” in AI, it will likely return generic content with SEO strategies that everyone knows and uses.

However, suppose you can add context to your search query, such as details about the topics the AI should write about when creating the content, the purpose of the content, and the intended audience. In that case, you may be able to eliminate the AI. Created content that is, at some level, also optimized for humans.

Treat AI-Generated Content As A First Draft

However, AI-generated content should always be treated as a first draft, which still requires a lot of work. Once an author has an initial draft, they don't need to create content from scratch and only need to modify AI-generated content to improve the user experience by adding humanization and context.

Add A Human Touch To AI-Generated Content

The style of AI-generated content looks robotic, i.e., as a robot would say. It can also be repetitive, which means that if you ask it to produce content on the same topic over and over again, the AI can start producing repetitive content. To combat this, you need to make sure your AI-generated content is modified to add personality. Research shows that most people reject marketing content that doesn't sound personal or is too general. Your content should be able to connect with your audience and evoke their emotions. Therefore, AI-generated marketing content must always be edited by humans to add the necessary context.

When editing content created by artificial intelligence, you must add your brand voice or emotions and the unique message you want the audience to receive. Your brand may need to be fun and friendly, not serious and formal. By adding your brand's voice to your AI content, you can make it more emotional and authentic.

Add Context

According to Google, context means "the circumstances that form the framework of an event, statement or idea, and against which it can be fully understood. When it comes to content writing, context primarily refers to the purpose of the content or why it is being written in the first place and for whom. Artificial intelligence can only generate standard text on a topic but may not understand the actual context of the topic or write for a specific target audience. However, in marketing, the content must be written with the target consumers in mind. Otherwise, it may not be able to create the desired effect. All you have to do is edit your AI-generated content to add context to your target readers and the message you want to convey to them. If you want an AI assistant to do the heavy lifting, provide an outline for each piece of content you want it to write, including annotations for each section that include information about the context and your target readers.

Make It Easy To Read And Interesting

AI-written content takes the form of long paragraphs filled with text that may not be easy to read or may sound too mechanical. If you don't want your readers to stop after one paragraph, you need to make your content more entertaining and easy to read. First, cut long paragraphs into small paragraphs of two or three lines at most. If the content feels too robotic, try to humanize it with questions, giving personal examples, and starting conversations. Customize any type of content at every stage of the sales funnel. Humanizing AI-generated text is not limited to content marketing but applies to any type of content written for any purpose.

Personal Experiences Are A Big Thing In The Consumer Space Right Now

Customers love it when brands are one step ahead in delivering personalized experiences through their content and/or services. If you want to humanize your content in the sales funnel, you want to focus on creating personalized experiences for your target audience. To understand what content drives your consumers, you may need to analyze their past behavioral data. Then, write or edit content that directly relates to their interests.

Personalization Of Email Marketing Content By AI

If you get AI tools to write email marketing content for your brand, add personality and your brand's voice to the email before you send it. You may have email templates and samples that have worked for your brand in the past. Combine them with AI-generated email content to create compelling emails and calls to action (CTAs). The idea is to keep emails relevant to your customers while reinforcing your brand's voice.

Use Different AI Tools

Instead of using one AI tool for all content or all types of content, find and use different tools for different purposes. Just like different stages of the content creation process, different AI tools have unique characteristics. For example, some tools are great for research, while others can speed up the content creation process. There are also AI tools that can review and edit your content and tools that can publish and/or promote it. Save time in your writing process by finding and using multiple tools that can help you at different stages.

Conclusion

While AI can write a lot of content quickly, AI-generated content still needs to be edited and customized by a human author to make it user-friendly and engaging. AI is not here to replace content writing; it can't. But AI can help writers create better content quickly. To ensure your AI content is high quality, authentic, and factually correct, you need to have a professional writer or editor proofread and edit it and add context. When creating content with tools, be sure to consider your brand voice and edit content to add humanity and personality to it.
